    Come Get Some is a fun, successful, competitive, male, indoor volleyball team. Although this will be a "new" team, we will play locally in the Catonsville, Elkridge, Md area. Games take place at The Volleyball House, located in Elkridge, Md. Open practices are held on Thursday's in Catonsville, Md. Practices are encouraged but not mandatory. The age range is from 21 - 45. Perspective players should have a minimum of 4 years playing competitive volleyball, with some tournament experience. Candidates should be committed to enhancing their skill level, while promoting the overall growth of the team. Individuals who execute a positive attitude, with a strong desire to win should apply. Come Get Some will compete year round! The year is divided into six sessions, Fall through Summer. The average cost per session is around $60.00. Season's last nine weeks and average about $2.25 per game, or $6.75 per match. The fee ($60.00) covers all court costs, including the referee. In the past, I have run 4 men's teams and 1 coed team. All teams have been successful wining their respective division and post season tournament. Since Come Get Some is a new team, I plan to enter us in the A/BBB league. (Presently, "A" is the most competitive league). Obviously, it depends on the caliber of those who desire to join the team, as to which division we will play. Games are on Tuesday's, or Wednesday's, depending the league we enter. As in the past, we will constantly need to recruit new players due to injuries, evolving schedules and family commitments. I try to field the same six, or seven players (libero) for an entire session. Therefore, everyone gets a feel for the guy next to him and we all get to play 3 games per match/set. Indeed, running a competitive team is challenging. Games can get very heated, tempers can flair, but the idea is to have fun, make some friends, exercise and win. If you desire a highly competitive atmosphere, have a solid skill set, are a good athlete and possess a team mentality, then Come Get Some. Presently, all positions are open.

Volleyball History

In 1895, William G Morgan, a physical education director at the Holyoke, Massachusettes YMCA, created a game called Mintonette, as a low contact indoor sport. After observing the first game, Alfred Halstead, renamed the game Volleyball due to the volleying nature of the game. Numerous other variations of Volleyball have developed such as Beach Volleyball, Footvolley, Hooverball, and Newcomb. Both Men's and Women's Leagues are popular, and there are many clubs and tournaments throughout the year in the US.

Volleyball Tips

Players can hone their volleyball skills by setting, bumping, and spiking a ball with a partner or against the wall. There are variety of volleyball drills that will increase skill in the game available both online and offline.
